Hair Loss Treatment: Ways to Fight the Clock

Hair loss can happen for many different types of reasons. Mainly, the people who experience hair loss are older men and women. If you are a man or woman of respectable age who are experiencing hair loss, don’t get too discouraged. Science is continuing to come up with hair loss treatments that helps regrow and maintain the hair you have.

Here are the different types of hair loss treatments that may work for you:

Background

First, it is helpful to know what causes hair loss, before you choose a hair loss treatment to help you. There are many causes for the loss of hair, some of them are related to age, and some are not. If you have undergone surgery in the past year, or were on medication, you may have experienced hair loss. This is because your body was disrupted from its normal pattern due to the illness, and after you regain health, your hair will fall out in large amounts and then revert back to its normal cycle.

Hormonal imbalance is another cause of hair loss. Pregnant women especially experience hair loss a few months after giving birth. Certain hormones that were present during the pregnancy will keep hair from going through its normal cycle of shedding and regenerating. When the pregnancy is over, the hair can fall out in great amounts, then return to normal.

Available Treatment

There is an available hair loss treatment for you, if your hair is falling out for reasons other than the above. Currently, there are two major products that help with hair loss — they are Rogaine and Propecia.

Propecia is a pill taken once a day by mouth that suppresses the enzyme that creates DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the male hormone that is linked to thinning and pattern baldness. Rogaine is a form of hair loss treatment that is in lotion form, and applied to the scalp to stimulate hair growth. Another, more extreme, type of treatment is hair transplant, in which real human hair is implanted into the scalp to create the look of a full head of hair.

Although there is no cure for hair loss, science is definitely coming close. Research has experimented with stem cells, which has shown hair growth in lab mice. With women, melatonin applied topically might also stimulate hair growth. So, if you are experiencing hair loss, don’t be ashamed or concerned. There are many treatments available to help you keep your hair and your youthfulness.
