Hair Loss in Men: Facts and Fiction

The issue of hair loss in men is one that most find quite upsetting as they consider their hair to be a huge part of their identity and personality. As men lose their hair, they tend to lose their personality and self-confidence. Be careful watching the late night infomercials about hair loss products as this can leave you will a cabinet full of products that really don’t work for hair loss in men.

The Myths

There are several myths involving hair loss in men. It was once believed that it only happened to the elderly. However both men and women in their 20ís can experience hair loss. It has not been proven, but many health care professionals believe stress can result in your hair falling out. Hair loss in men could be associated with a great deal of stress. It can result in the loss of up to 100 hairs each day.

Wearing tight hats won’t cause you to lose your hair. It has been commonly mistaken that this cuts off the circulation of blood to the hair follicles. While it can cause you to get a headache, it definitely won’t cause your hair to fall out. Having dirty hair will irritate your scalp, but it won’t cause your hair to fall out. Remember the early photos of dirty cavemen with long hair?

Don’t be fooled into shaving your head by the myth that it will grow back thicker and fuller. In fact doing this can result in additional hair loss for you. Dandruff does not result in hair loss for men. This scalp condition has nothing to do with the hair follicles.

The Real Cause

Genetics is the main culprit for hair loss in men. Androgens interact with the hair follicles from the onset of puberty into adulthood. Too much will cause alterations in the hair growth cycle and lead to baldness. To reduce hair loss in men, the reason behind the loss has to be correctly identified. The longer you want to seek treatment the harder it will be to reverse the affects.
